Trades and Domestic Building Work

There is no doubt that a good tradie is worth his weight in gold!

Everyday, we come across professional tradespeople who take their trade seriously and take pride in their work.

These same tradies say that I’m a qualified carpenter, bricklayer, cabinet maker, tiler etc.

There is one problem with this…….There is no such thing as a qualified trade anymore!  Doing your Apprenticeship is no longer enough to offer your services to the public.

Today you’re either Registered with a DB-U, DB-L or you’re NOT. You’ve either got a Builders Licence or you Haven’t!

If you’re not Registered with the VBA (Victorian Building Authority) with a Domestic Builder Limited Licence (DB-L) in your specific trade then you are likely to be breaking the law, risking fines and prosecution for doing work illegally.

Domestic Builder Limited

When you attain the level of Domestic Builder (Limited) you are limited to arranging, managing or carrying out various components of domestic building work specific to your Limited Registration. It is important to note, that if you are doing work over $5000 in any of these   trade components you must be Registered in the Limited Class of Domestic Registration for that work. We provide the necessary information in the following list.

List of the Components for Domestic Building Work

1. Construction processes of non-habitable structures, which include private carports and garages that fit with a class-one building, a separate one-story garage large enough to accommodate four or more vehicles, gazebos, sheds, shade structures and cabanas.

2. Planning, construction and installation tasks for fences and gates for homes

3. Retaining-wall construction includes the preparation of soil along with the planning and building of this type of wall

6. Structural landscaping for homes that ranges from decking to paving

7. Renovation of kitchens, bathrooms or laundries as long as the project stays within the present confines of these rooms
